Young
English-speakers support Roodt even more
I myself am a young 25-year old
Afrikaner, although I was raised by an English father and Afrikaans
mother. I was brought up to be Afrikaans first and English second,
meaning I was fully bilingual at an early age. It is always funny,
almost hilarious, to see people trying to anglicize themselves as if
they are mortified to continue and express themselves in their own language.
I feel pity for those who think that being anything but English is a
second-rate philosophy and way of life.
By stating that I am young and 25,
I would add that I socialize with others of my generation. I would
like to tell Mr. Schutte that I am acquainted with a lot of English-speaking
young people who feel very much at home in speaking Afrikaans.
Having read Dan Roodt's new book, The
Scourge of the ANC, and spoken about it to both my
English and Afrikaans friends, it is quite funny that my English-speaking
friends agree with his statements even more. I can only deduce that
Mr. Schutte is out of touch with English-speaking South Africa.
